KS3

In KS3, each year is split into 6 discrete topic areas:

  • Number: Arithmetic
  • Algebra
  • Ratio, Proportion and Rates of Change
  • Number: Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
  • Geometry and Measures
  • Probability & Statistics

Students cycle through each topic area, gaining in-depth knowledge and understanding with a Mastery focus on gaining confidence in each aspect’s basic skills before moving-on to more challenging areas.

KS4

In KS4, while the same topic areas are covered as in KS3 there is a higher frequency of cycling. This means students student each topic for short bursts so they can gain a greater appreciation of how the topics relate to one another, and apply their understanding to problem solving involving multiple topic areas.

The aims of the GCSE Maths course are to:

  • Develop fluent knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts
  • Acquire, select and apply mathematical techniques to solve problems
  • Reason mathematically, make deductions and inferences, and draw conclusions
  • Comprehend, interpret and communicate mathematical information in a variety of forms appropriate to the information and context

Extra-Curricular

We offer opportunities for students to come for individual and small group support, informally or this can be arrange with specific teachers when needed. Students requiring support, long or short term, should speak to their class teacher who will advise a mutually convenient time for this to take place.

GCSE students who are at risk of falling behind are given compulsory, targeted intervention sessions at key times throughout the year. These focus on exam technique and catch-up in specific topic areas.
